Help for living – Life with Home sharing

Don’t pay any rents but help the people in house-hold works, is the motto of the home sharing program (Wohnen für Hilfe in German) in Germany. This project brings old people who can rent a room and younger people who look for rooms, together.

There are two reasons to bring this idea of living partnership into existence. First, in many of the cities, it’s hard to find a cheaper room. Second, Many older people live alone in big houses or apartments, most of the times it is too big for them to live. The organisers of home sharing bringing students or trainees and older people together – it is advantageous for both: rather paying rents, youngsters help older people in doing house-hold works.

Fill a form to contact partners

Before finding a one room apartment near Freiburg, Arjun, a MS student from University of Freiburg has to fill a form which shows his complete potential like whether can he able to manage living with older people or is he having any problems living with family? Whether he manages pets? What are his wishes? What is he expecting from the living partners? As soon as the organisers of this Home sharing program receives the application from Arjun, they told him that, there is one lady who is looking to offer a room for a student. In the first meeting itself the lady decided to offer one room in her house to Arjun.

One hour work per Square meter

From two years, Arjun is living with his land-lady in a village near to Freiburg. He has his personal living room, separate bathroom, separate kitchen. In some of the home sharing, there will be shared bathrooms and shared kitchen either with the owners or with fellow students. As a rule, students who take up the chance to live as living partners should work one hour per Square meter of their living room. Arjun’s living room is 20 Square meters, so he works for 20 Hours in a month. It is Home sharing organisation’s responsibility to make sure that Arjun as expected or not.

Individual regulations in work

There is no specific rule for the works what students get in home sharing program. For example, Arjun brings food items from super market for his land-lady. He helps her in gardening, cooking, washing clothes. Time to time, he solves problems related to power supply, internet and telephone connections. Whenever Arjun finds some time, he chats with his land-lady on various topic which gives immense pleasure to his land-lady.

It is not as easy as it looks

It is false assumption that any body can come to home sharing program and get exemption from rent. It is not always easy for youngsters to live with older people. Playing loud music, partying with friends is not allowed in most of the home sharing. If there is problem with students, land-lords lodge a complaint against students in home sharing organisation. Organisers visit the living partners and solve the problems, in case there is severe problem which can’t be resolved, then that might lead to break of home sharing between them.

Family feeling for both sides

Arjun’s land-lady never had a problem with Arjun in the last two years. Arjun, who come from India, feels staying with his family while staying with his land-lady and his land-lady feels so happy when Arjun helps her in daily routines and treat him as her own son. So there is harmony in their lives. Normally, no body enter into each other’s private rooms without asking them, every body needs privacy and private life too.

In West and South Germany

At the moment, such home sharing programs are only in West and South Germany. Hopefully there will much more home sharing programs in other parts of Germany as well in rest of the world in the coming years.

How to write a better project report

The project report is the permanent hardcopy record that summarizes project accomplishments. It describes the general project goals and the equipment and procedures employed to meet specific conditions and requirements. The report provides information useful for verification and adjustment, including detailed explanation of unusual or special features of the project. [1]

This blog post discusses some instructions given by various professors, research assistants [2] from Karlsruhe University of Applied Sciences [3] and Karlsruhe Institute of Technology [4] in preparing project reports. Some of the instructions are my own and some are collected from various websites. Some of these instructions can also be helpful in writing final thesis reports or scientific research papers and so on.

• Mention name of the university and name of study program with semester in the first page of report.

• Mention appropriate title of the project and title of the supervisors and professors.

• Numbering of the references should be sequential e.g. [1], [2]. But not [5], [3], [1]...

• Each and every information and diagram should be marked with valid reference.

• Pronouns should be omitted when writing a report.

• State the purpose of project/abstract/motivation, which should discuss the project’s overview, what has already done and what is going to achieve with this project and what are the expectations of the project and theoretical estimations and so on.

• Describe the equipments, a list of instruments, including calibration information, describe any deviations from the specifications used and the reason for such deviations and describe all problems encountered during project run.

• Measurement principles or statistical data should be discussed with large amounts of data by comparing with the existing results or previous projects.

• In References block, Author date system is suggestible, if possible with page numbers. e.g.: Writing Guidelines for Engineering Students, 1997-2004 M. Kostic, page 15-26.

• Submit the report prior to the dead line so that your instructor or supervisor will have some time to read and correct your report in time. This will help you in finding your faults and updating missed information within the dead line before going for the final presentation.

ఒక్కసారి ఆ పురాణాలు దాటొచ్చి చూడు, అవసరాలకోసం దారులు తప్పే పాత్రలు తప్ప, హీరోలు విలన్లు లేరీ నాటకంలో. మనిషిలో లోతుగా కూరుకుపోయిన ధర్మం ఒక్కటే అహం. ప్రతి పురుగులో కదిలించే నిజం ఒక్కటే ఆకలి. తపించే ఆత్మనల్లా శాసించె శక్తి ఒక్కటే ఆశ. ఆ ఆశ ముసిరినప్పుడు ఆలోచన మసకబారుతుంది. నీతి నిజాయితీలు కొలిమిలో కొవ్వొత్తుల్లా కరిగిపోతాయి. ఆరోజు ఆక్షణం నా స్వాదీనంలో చేసిన తప్పుకోసం జీవితమంతా లెక్క చెల్లిస్తూనే ఉన్నాను. తండ్రిలా భర్తలా బంట్రోతులా .... ఆలోచించి చేసినవాన్నైతే ఆరోజే వీన్ని చంపి నిజాన్ని పాతిపెట్టేవాన్ని. నా ప్రస్థానంలో ఈ గంటదాటి నేను బతకాలి అంటే మీరు చావాలి. నా నిజస్వరూపాన్ని ఎత్తిచూపే గుర్తులన్ని చెరిగిపోవాలి. చంపు.. నీ పగ తీర్చుకో... మీ వెలుతురులో నేను బతకలేనురా.. నన్ను చీకటిని చేసావ్.

కాలగర్భంలో చీకటి వెలుతురులా మనిషిలోని మంచిచెడులు ఎప్పుడు పోరాడుతూనే ఉంటాయి. ఆ తీరని మానవ ప్రస్థానం - మనిషి తాను విత్తిన పంటనే కోస్తాడు.

Super 30 – The Road To The IITs

Super 30 is an educational program that started in Patna, India under the banner of Ramanujan School of Mathematics. The program selected 30 meritorious and talented candidates every year from economically backward sections of society and shaped them for India's most prestigious educational institution, the Indian Institute of Technology. In 2008, Super 30 opened up several chapters across different cities of Bihar. In the last seven years, it has seen 182 out of 210 students from extremely economically poor background accepted in IIT-JEE. During this program students are provided free tuitions, board and lodge. Mathematician Anand Kumar was granted admission to Cambridge University, but could not attend for financial reasons. Having witnessed extreme financial hardship since childhood, he felt the pangs of poverty so much that he decided to do something for the poor students, who invariably fade away without getting right opportunities. This led to the birth of the programme. Indian Police Service officer Abhayanand supported him to run the programme. However, Abhayanand quit Super 30 in 2008 after 100% result. While Anand Kumar continuing to run the original Super 30.

The Obstacle in Our Path

In ancient times, a king had a boulder placed on a roadway. Then he hid himself and watched to see if anyone would remove the huge rock.

Some of the king's wealthiest merchants and courtiers came by and simply walked around it. Many loudly blamed the king for not keeping the roads clear, but none did anything about getting the big stone out of the way.

Then a peasant came along carrying a load of vegetables. On approaching the boulder, the peasant laid down his burden and tried to move the stone to the side of the road. After much pushing and straining, he finally succeeded.
As the peasant picked up his load of vegetables, he noticed a purse lying in the road where the boulder had been. The purse contained many gold coins and a note from the king indicating that the gold was for the person who removed the boulder from the roadway.

The peasant learned what many others never understand.Every obstacle presents an opportunity to improve one's condition

The truth is, there's no better time to be happy than right now

Your life will always be filled with challenges
It's best to admit this to yourself
And decide to be happy anyway.
Happiness is the way.
So, treasure every moment that you have
And treasure it more because
You shared it with someone special
Special enough to spend your time with
And remember that time waits for no one.

It gives immense pleasure writing this post...

Right from childhood, many of us would like to know differences or comparisons between Science and Beliefs. For me personally, has burning desire to know about beliefs(sayings)...which come out from old people or ancestors ...why do they tell so.....do that,do this, this is good, this is not good, this is bla bla, that is bla bla.... for a modern student all these things will give some irritation unless it is scientifically proven. But from my past experiences we can believe some of things (i don't know whether scientifically proven or not).

Here are some:

> In a place like Andhra Pradesh, for most of the festivals and small homely functions, we see decorating our doors and entrances, main windows with mango leaves or small mango branches.

Why do they do so. If you ask your ancestors they can't explain scientific reason as they are following their ancestors foot steps. But the reason behind it is, Mango leaves give pleasant smell as well as fresh Oxygen. On the eve of festivals or functions many relatives will join together. To overcome problem of suffocation, in each and every part of home people places mango leaves or branches.

> Don't cut finger nails in the night time.

Many of us have very strong nails and these are fastest growing areas of human body and poisonous too. If some body cuts theit nail and leave at the place where they cut (our ancestors do not make use of dust bins regularly), it leads to cutting of some body's foot and also it is very dangerous. This is the reason for that saying.

> Don't cut your hair on Tuesdays

Barbers needed holiday in their profession. So they themselves cannot be granted holiday. But if you create a belief in people it should followed by all. So they created a belief in people that if anybody cut their hair on Tuesday, it is bad for their health or wealth......

and Exams are defined as amount of information you write on the papers in the given time

A man came home from work late, tired and irritated, to find his
5-year old son waiting for him at the door

SON: "Daddy, may I ask you a question?"
DAD: "Yeah sure, what is it?" replied the man.
SON: "Daddy, how much do you make an hour?"
DAD: "That's none of your business. Why do you ask such a thing?"
the man said angrily.
SON: "I just want to know. Please tell me, how much do you make an hour?"
DAD: "If you must know, I make Rs.100 an hour." "Oh," the little boy
replied, with his head down.

Looking up, he said, "Daddy, may I please borrow Rs.50?"

The father was furious, "If the only reason you asked that is so you
can borrow some money to buy a silly toy or some other nonsense, then
you march yourself straight to your room and go to bed. Think
about why you are being so selfish. I work hard everyday for such this
childish behavior."

The little boy quietly went to his room and shut the door.

The man sat down and started to get even angrier about the little
boy's questions. How dare he ask such questions only to get some
money?

After about an hour or so, the man had calmed down, and started to think:

Maybe there was something he really needed to buy with that Rs.50 and
he really didn't ask for money very often. The man went to the door of
the little boy's room and opened the door.

"Are you asleep, son?" He asked.
"No daddy, I'm awake," replied the boy.
"I've been thinking, maybe I was too hard on you earlier, "said the man.
"It's been a long day and I took out my aggravation on you. Here's the
Rs.50 you asked for."

The little boy sat straight up, smiling. "Oh, thank you daddy!" He
yelled. Then, reaching under his pillow he pulled out some crumpled up
bills.

The man, seeing that the boy already had money, started to get angry
again. The little boy slowly counted out his money, and then looked up
at his father.

"Why do you want more money if you already have some?" the father grumbled.
"Because I didn't have enough, but now I do," the little boy replied.

"Daddy, I have Rs.100 now. Can I buy an hour of your time?
Please come home early tomorrow. I would like to have dinner with you."

Lesson to learn from Heart Touching Story:

But even better, share Rs.100 worth of time with someone you love.

It's just a short reminder to all of you working so hard in life. We
should not let time slip through our
fingers without having spent some time with those who really matter to
us, those close to our hearts.

If we die tomorrow, the company that we are working for could easily
replace us in a matter of days. But the family & friends, we leave
behind will feel the loss for the rest of their lives.
And
come to think of it, we pour ourselves more into work than to our family.

Think PRACTICALLY

Never take some one for granted, Hold every person close to your Heart because

you might wake up one day and realize that you have lost a diamond
while you were too busy collecting stones................

Mumbai Mirakle Courier Service

His fluorescent orange uniform makes him stand out in the crowd as he strides past Churchgate station. A bag slung across his shoulder, he’s oblivious to the noise as he takes care to use the pavement. He loves this round, which takes him to the top companies in Nariman Point. But, he avoids using the shortcut through the Oval Maidan. Once, a long time ago, he was hit by a cricket ball while taking the shortcut.

He did not hear the screams or warnings. For, you see, Vinod Jagtap is deaf. One of the 34 employees of Mirakle Couriers, a firm entirely run and manned by the hearing-impaired.

This courier company has caught the interest of several big Mumbai-based businesses such as Mahindra and Mahindra, Godrej & Boyce and the Aditya Birla Group. This band is proactively spreading the word about Mirakle Couriers. They urge city-based industrial houses to support the fledgling enterprise. And they are going all out to help the company.

For instance, Mirakle has office space bang opposite Churchgate, in the heart of town, thanks to the Aditya Birla Group. It would have cost Mirakle over Rs 50,000 a month to rent space (250 sq ft) in this part of the city. Now, it uses the office free of cost.

“It’s critical for a courier company to have a central location,” says Subrato Sarkaar, Vice-President, Administration, Aditya Birla Group. Before moving to Churchgate, the start-up had found a benefactor in Thermax, an environmental engineering company. Thermax allowed Mirakle to function from its Colaba office for a while, on launching its operations in November 2008.

Supplier Diversity

Though all of Mirakle’s employees are deaf, Mirakle has an impeccable service record. “We have maintained a zero-defect record. No packet has been delivered to a wrong address, so far,” says Dhruv Lakra, Founder and CEO, Mirakle Couriers.

Lakra, after a short stint as an investment banker in Mumbai, decided his future was not cut out for high finance but in pounding the streets as a social entrepreneur. An MBA from Oxford, as a Scholl scholar, prepared him for the role. On his return from Oxford in October 2008, he chanced upon a conversation between a deaf commuter and a bus conductor. The former’s gesticulations made little sense to either the conductor or Lakra, but the encounter remained etched on his mind.

A quick bit of research revealed that the hearing impaired was the most ignored of all disabilities; the most under-funded as well. Lakra decided to be an ambassador for them. “I entered the courier business as it is manpower-and-volume-driven. It can provide employment to the maximum number of deaf,” he explains. Lakra started business with just about £300 he had saved from his Oxford scholarship. He knew it would be a rough ride. But, he didn’t anticipate the tide of support he would receive from corporates.

These companies were actually putting into practice the tenets of supplier diversity—a term they are not yet familiar with. It is a mature practice in the US and Europe. Large corporations there seek out small vendors from the marginalised sections of society, and through a process of handholding ensure their growth. For instance, Procter & Gamble in the US buys goods and services worth $1.5 billion from minority- and women-owned businesses every year. The goal is to take this to $2.5 billion by 2010.

Back home, all companies under the Aditya Birla Group spend about Rs 6 crore on courier services each year. Even a small slice of this—intra-city deliveries to start with—means a lot for a social enterprise like Mirakle. This is beginning to happen.

Green Shoots?

While Sarkaar is not certain about the concept or the import of supplier diversity, he is certain about Mirakle’s efficient services. “Their systems are better than that of other professional courier services,” he says. The Central Mail Receiving and Despatch (CMRD) unit at Godrej & Boyce, which enlisted Mirakle only last month, has a similar experience. Godrej, after trying out 50 to 100 packets with Mirakle, wanted to load the courier with higher numbers when the company wanted to dispatch fixed deposit certificates. Lakra, however, refused. He felt he was not yet ready for an immediate scale up. “This only proves his commitment to creating a robust business,” says Nariman D Bacha, who presides over the CMRD at Godrej & Boyce.

Mirakle, within eight months, has endeared itself to the clutch of companies that has dared to experiment with it. In the process, they have unwittingly set in motion the concept of supplier diversity in the private sector. JJ Irani, Chairman of the CII Council on Affirmative Action, has already sowed the seeds of supplier diversity within the Tata Group companies.

“What we need is soft support from corporates,” says Lakra. He expects no other concession from clients. He competes with mainline courier firms on price, and doesn’t expect business to come as charity. “When the attitude of charity comes in, mediocrity also seeps in,” he says. So far, Mirakle has delivered over 10,000 packets. “We have grown from two to 34 employees, without parallel growth in revenue generation,” he says. He endeavours to set up a training system for his team, all in sign language.

Lakra has no time to waste. Idea Cellular has asked him whether he can deliver bills to its customers across Mumbai—the numbers are in tens of thousands. And Lakra’s employees, like Jagtap from Chembur, are rising to the occasion.

Jagtap is also one of Mirakle’s star performers. As a window cleaner, he earned a pittance. The bright orange uniform of Mirakle and a monthly pay of Rs 3,000 plus incentives have lent him a new confidence and dignity. Jagtap is also courting a girl in his neighbourhood. “I will marry her when I save enough for my wedding,” he gesticulates with a blush.

He’s sure of one thing—the venue will not be anywhere near the Azad Maidan.
